The D-Dimer blood test is used to diagnose D-Dimer in the blood. At the time of injury, as the process of normal healing, the blood clotting takes place. But once the bleeding stops, the body is not in the need of any blood clots. Thus, the body takes a series of steps in this direction and breaks the clot down. It is the part of the protein fragments that are made from the breakdown of a blood clot. The doctor may recommend this test to check the levels of D-Dimer in the blood, to detect and diagnose a blood clot even after healing. Thorough detection is required because, the blood clot might turn to be dangerous if formed in a deep vein called deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which is usually. found in the legs. Conversely, if the clot moves to the lungs it may interrupt the flow of blood and may cause death. This is called Pulmonary Embolism (PE)).
