Anemia is a state that occurs when the amount of hemoglobin drops below normal in a person's bloodstream. Hemoglobin is a protein that can be found in the red blood cells of the body and helps transport oxygen to various organs. The body's tissues or organs may be adversely affected if they can’t get an adequate supply of oxygen-rich blood when hemoglobin is low. Those having Iron-deficiency (anemia) may experience fatigue and weakness and may lack energy. The Anemia Blood Test is used to diagnose anemia and its underlying causes. This test panel includes

Complete Blood Count (CBC) With Differential and Platelets: A CBC blood test counts the number and kind of cells in the blood sample including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. The CBC can evaluate the general health condition and diagnoses a variety of diseases and conditions such as infection, anemia, and several other disorders.
Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin): The deficiency of Vitamin B12 can lead to anemia (pernicious anemia), which is a disorder of the red blood cells. Vitamin B12, also known as Cobalamin is required for the formation of normal red blood cells (RBCs) and white blood cells (WBCs), repair of tissues and cells, and the synthesis of DNA.
Iron, TIBC, and Ferritin Panel: The iron test measures the amount of iron in the blood. The total iron-binding capacity (TIBC) test examines how well the iron travels through the body. A ferritin test measures the amount of ferritin, a blood protein containing iron thus used to check your iron levels.
Please do not exercise prior to testing. It is best that your blood is taken in a rested state.
Note: Turn around times on results are an estimate and are not guaranteed. The lab may need additional time due to holidays, confirmation/repeat testing, etc. You can contact us to discuss when your results should be ready and we will contact the lab on your behalf immediately.
